Google’s VP Product Management, News, Brad Bender announced yesterday in a blog post that the company will start to pay publishers for high-quality content for a new news experience to be launched later this year.
According to him “this program will help participating publishers monetize their content through an enhanced storytelling experience that lets people go deeper into more complex stories, stay informed and be exposed to a world of different issues and interests.
“We will start with publishers in a number of countries around the globe, with more to come soon.”
Opera launched something like this recently but I think they have not been able to manage it well. Knowing Google for their professionalism, this will be a great succour to publishers who are already grappling with a steep decline in advertising expenditure due to the coronavirus crisis.
