Corruption, Insecurity, Bane Of Nigeria’s Electoral Process – Umahi

The Governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi has blamed corruption and insecurity as some of the main factors militating against the electoral process in the country.

He said this while reacting to a questions on a Lagos-based television programme, Sunrise Daily, in Lagos, in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict on the Bayelsa Governorship election, which annulled the victory of the candidate of the All Progressives Party, APC, candidate, David Leon as the Governor of the state.

“You see, you don’t expect people to vote during election when their lives are not safe and secured. People vote when they are sure that their lives and properties are safe.” He said

He also said: ” The electorate are also not willing to cast their votes when they already know the outcome of the election because they believe the politicians have compromised the process. Until, we address these issues, we will always be having challenges in our election process.”

He also described as unfortunate, the Supreme Court verdict which annulled the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate in the November 14, 2019 guber polls in Bayelsa state
