The All Progressive Congress, APC in Ogun State has vehemently condemned the dissolution of Ogun Waterside Local Government administration by the the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
This was contained in a News Release signed, Monday January 28, 2019 by the Publicity Secretary, Ogun APC Caretaker Committee, Tunde Oladunjoye.
It states further that the said dissolution saw the Executive Chairman of Ogun Waterside Local Government, Hon Femi Onanuga been “impeached” by his Councillors.
With all indications, this he said might not be unconnected with the orders of Governor Amosun, for his open support for the APC gubernatorial candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
“Latest Intelligence Report at our disposal revealed that more Council Chairmen, Councilors, Commissioners, Chairmen and members of statutory boards have been slated for dismissal as a result of their principled support for their party’s gubernatorial candidate, Prince Dapo Abiodun.”
Of course, the latest act of impunity confirms the alarm that party has raised in the recent past.
The statement reliably affirmed that this illegal act of dissolving an elected local government administration by a state governor has been roundly condemned and decided against by the Nigerian Supreme Court.
In his words, Justice Centus Nweze of the Supreme Court of Nigeria described the action of the governor as “tantamount to executive recklessness which would not be condoned”.
“The APC condemns in totality, this intolerant, illegal and provocative act by Governor Amosun in his desperate and greedy bid to continue to indirectly hold on to the reigns of power in Ogun State even after leaving office.”
Finally, the state Chapter of the All Progressive Congress While demanding the immediate reinstatement of the “impeached” Council Chairman, has used the medium to again call on President Muhammadu Buhari, whose name the Governor has always been dropping, to call Governor Ibikunle Amosun to order.
This the party noted that a stitch in time saves nine – as the acts by the incumbent governor, if not timely cautioned, can set Ogun State on fire.
